1. How do I know if I am a candidate for a full upper implant bridge?
After reviewing your medical history we need to see how much jaw bone is available for the implants. The bridge depends on many factors such as bone density, bone volume, upper and lower jaw alignment, lip position, and jaw size.
2. How many implants are needed?
The numbers of implants depend on the size of the jaw and the smile. Generally, 4-6 and sometimes 8 implants may be needed.
3. What will be worn once all the implants are placed?
Generally a full denture is fitted over the implants while they are healing. Occasionally, a temporary bridge can be immediately attached to the implants.
4. What materials are used to make the bridges?
There are generally two types of bridges, porcelain and acrylic. The porcelain bridges require a strong base of metal alloy such as gold and palladium metals. These bridges can be more costly due to the precious metals. Recently, new materials such as Zirconia and Titanium have been used with excellent results. Porcelain is still bonded to the surface of these metals to optimize the esthetics.
Acylic can also be used to fabricate a full upper implant bridge. There is a reduced cost compared to the porcelain bridges. The acrylic bridges can be easier to repair should any fracture occur. The acrylic bridges are similar in character to a full denture.
